The Film & Video Distribution Database (FVDD) has come out of an Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)
funded research project undertaken from 2002-2005 by Julia Knight and Peter Thomas at the University of Bedfordshire.
The project examined the history of film and video distribution in the so-called UK independent
film and video sector, from the mid-1960s onwards. Their main findings have been published in
Reaching Audiences: Distribution and Promotion of Alternative Moving Image (Intellect, 2011). But in the course of that project, thousands of documents were scanned for easy reference, and it is
these that have formed the basis of the FVDD. Knight and Thomas subsequently moved to the University of Sunderland, and the
FVDD was undertaken as a collaboration between Sunderland and the British Artists' Film and Video Study Collection. |
